This one is not for the faint of heart, so if you’re looking for a “standard” guitar, this one is definitely NOT for you!
About this guitar:
This is truly a “parts guitar”, made from various items I had laying around. It has FOUR PICKUPS (count ’em…), with all sorts of various switches and knobs that make them work. From top to bottom (neck to bridge), the pickups are:
- P-90 Soapbar pickup, single coil
- TWO – blade type Tele/Strat humbucker pickups in the centre
- Wilkinson Humbucker bridge pickup
The four ON/OFF switches toggle each pickup on and off.
The two small toggle switches do the following:
- Top one: does a coil tap on both of the 2 centre (blade) pickups
- Bottom one: does a coil tap on the bridge humbucker pickup
- White knob is master volume (the indicator plate goes from zero to one hundred!!)
- Red knob is master tone.
You can get all sorts of different tone from this guitar. Surprisingly, all those switches and knobs are pretty easy to figure out and use. You can dial in any sort of pickup combination, do coil taps, and all sorts of other nonsense with this thing. Again, it’s not for the timid.
B-bender installed, which works smoothly and is easy to tune. The guitar is light/medium weight, approx. 6.5 lbs (3 kg). I put the lefty Strat neck on it because I wanted the guitar to be as odd looking as possible.
This guitar covers lots of ground. When a guitar picker says, “I’m only in it for the romance,” this guitar is what he’s talking about. B Benders are not for everyone, but if you’re a guitar picker who wants to step away from the crowd, this one’s worth checking out.
