About this guitar:
A very clean Flutney Partscaster guitar in cool grey colour. Flutney B Bender installed.
This is a hybrid guitar. It has three mismatched pickups that happen to sound great together:
- Humbucker neck pickup, wired as single coil
- Strat style Alnico 5 middle single coil pickup
- Tele style single coil bridge pickup
The pickups are all strong output and are wired with a 5 position switch in the normal Nashville setup. Also included is the “Gilmour Mod“. This is a mini switch, popularised by David Gilmour, that turns the neck pickup on and off. It’s also called a “Gilmour 7-way” wiring setup. It allows you to use the Neck & Bridge pickups together, and to use ALL THREE pickups together, something you can’t do on normal 3-pickup Tele or Strat setups. It’s a very handy option.
The 5-position switch works as it would on a normal Strat, or on a 3-pickup Tele:
1st (back) position………Tele style Bridge pickup [with Gilmour Switch: Bridge + Neck pickups]
2nd position………………Bridge + Middle pickups [with Gilmour Switch: All three pickups]
3rd (middle) position…..Middle pickup
4th position……………….Bridge + Neck pickups
5th (front) position……..Neck pickup
Single volume and tone control everything. You can get all sorts of different tones from this guitar. The setup is easy to figure out and use.
The guitar is a nice grey colour. The front and back of the peghead are painted yellow, though it’s hard to see in the pics. The guitar has some very small scratches, but otherwise in excellent shape. Likely was originally a Squire body, but I don’t know. The neck was a plain maple neck with no markings when I got it. It’s a good neck, not fancy, but certainly playable. The rest are collected (new and used) parts.
The Flutney B Bender works well and is easy to tune. This guitar covers a lot of ground. When a guitar picker says, “I’m just in it for the romance,” this guitar is what he’s talking about.
Thanks for looking, and I’ll try to answer any questions you have.
